Caring for Your Pure Silk

Pure silk is a natural fibre that deserves a little extra care, but when treated gently, it will stay beautiful for years.

• Unpacking & First Use: Your silk piece may arrive with light creases from packing. To relax the fabric naturally, hang it in the bathroom while you take a warm shower—the gentle humidity helps wrinkles drop out. If creases remain, use a cool iron on the reverse side through a clean cotton cloth (a tea towel works well). Use the lowest heat or “silk” setting, never apply steam directly, and avoid pressing hard or sliding the iron.
• Cleaning: For best results, dry clean only. If you prefer to wash by hand, use cold water and a small amount of silk-specific detergent. Gently swirl, do not soak, wring, or twist. Rinse thoroughly, then press excess water between clean towels.
• Drying: Lay flat or hang to air dry in the shade, away from direct sunlight or heat sources. Do not tumble dry.
• Storage: Store flat or gently rolled to avoid sharp creases. If hanging, use a wide, padded hanger. Keep in a breathable cotton bag or drawer, away from prolonged sunlight or moisture.
• Protection: Ideally, try to avoid direct contact with perfume, body lotion, sunscreen, or hairspray, as these can mark or fade silk. Over time, the fibres may soften slightly and develop a more fluid drape. This is part of silk’s natural charm.

Is silk really better for skin and hair?

Yes. Silk is naturally frictionless, helping reduce tugging on skin and hair. It’s also less absorbent than cotton, so it won’t draw moisture away from your hair or skincare products overnight.

Is the pillowcase hypoallergenic?

Silk is naturally hypoallergenic and resistant to dust mites, making it a great choice for sensitive sleepers.

Can I wash my silk at home?

Dry cleaning is safest and will help preserve the vibrancy of your print. If you choose to wash it yourself, use cold water and a detergent made specifically for silk. Handle gently, avoid soaking, and air dry naturally.

Will silk shrink if it gets wet?

Silk may shrink slightly if washed in water, especially if exposed to heat or agitation. To minimise this, always use cold water and avoid wringing or twisting.

Can I iron silk?

Yes, but with care. Use a cool setting and iron on the reverse side while the fabric is still slightly damp, or place a thin cloth between the silk and the iron. Avoid steam directly on the fabric.

How should I store my silk when not in use?

Store flat or gently rolled in a breathable bag or drawer, away from sunlight and moisture. Avoid hanging silk for long periods, as this can cause the fabric to stretch.

Will the colours fade over time?

All textiles naturally age, but keeping silk away from prolonged sunlight and avoiding harsh detergents or heat will preserve its colour and sheen for many years.

What if my silk develops wrinkles or creases?

Light creases often relax naturally when the silk is hung in a steamy bathroom for a few minutes. Avoid spraying directly with water or ironing damp patches.
